Description


The Portfolio Management team is one of two pillars of the Investment team at Northland whose core function is the development of investment and capital markets strategies across a $7 Billion multifamily portfolio.  Northland has recently completed raising its seventh fund, exceeding the original equity raise target, and has begun raising equity on its eighth fund. As the Portfolio Analyst you will work alongside the CEO, AVP of Investments, and Director of Portfolio Management to set a course for the next generation of growth at Northland.

Essential Functions

 

The following list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented or modified, as necessary.

 

  • Development of enterprise-wide cash flow forecasts
  • Analysis of the current portfolio for opportunistic capital events and long-term strategic planning
  • Execution of financing and disposition strategies
  • Valuation of portfolio assets, fund NAV, and investor equity
  • Research of publicly traded competitors to compare key performance indicators
  • Prepare financial analyses to assist strategic decision-making regarding portfolio strategies, potential acquisitions, dispositions, financing events, and developments
  • Assist in the oversight and monitoring of the performance of a diverse multifamily portfolio, including development and maintenance of performance monitoring and hold/sell models
  • Update portfolio Excel model and run sensitivity analysis with prospective acquisitions, dispositions, and developments to identify impact on portfolio allocation and performance
  • Build and maintain financial and portfolio models in Excel
  • Work closely with accounting team to ensure data integrity
  • Participate in the periodic internal valuations
  • Ad hoc analysis as needed, along with other projects and duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field is required along with 1-3 years of experience in a portfolio management, operations, capital markets, or lending role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

 

  • Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis using financial modeling techniques and a strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with waterfall structures, cash flow modeling, underwriting, and market analysis.
  • Advanced excel competency with proficiency in programming and data analytics.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and maintain a cooperative, productive atmosphere.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy, transparent, and open-communication environment.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

Travel 

  • Ability to travel for business as needed, sometimes, with little advanced notice.  Anticipated travel is less than 20%.
