POSITION:           Director of Facility Operations

REPORTS TO:     General Manager

FLSA STATUS:    Exempt

State Farm Stadium

Completed in August of 2006, State Farm Stadium has set the standard in multi-purpose NFL Facilities. The stadium is home to a variety of different events including Arizona Cardinals home games, the annual Fiesta Bowl, international soccer matches, motorsports, trade & consumer shows, and corporate & social functions.

Designed with a roll-out natural grass field and retractable roof, the first of its kind in North America, the stadium is capable of converting from a sports facility to a multi-functional event space allowing it to host numerous event types in air-conditioned comfort.

 

 

Summary
The Director of Facility Operations is responsible for the management responsibility for all services and activities involved in operations and engineering.

 Leading development and administration of the Strategic Long term financial plan for the stadium including five-year forecast and annual capital expenditures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned

 

  • Select motivate and evaluate supervisory staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for operations and housekeeping; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations and Engineering budget.
  • Forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures and implement adjustments as necessary.
  • Oversee and approve the set-up of events; coordinate facility arrangements with contractors as well as in-house staff.
  • Coordinate with contractors for projects outside the auspices of internal operations.
  • The ability to understand and administrate the management contract with ownership authority
  • Responds and takes appropriate actions (on-site & off-site) in the event of emergency or critical incidents, i.e. system failures, fires, flooding, or other emergencies

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Manages subordinate Directors and Managers who supervise employees in the Operations and Engineering.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience      

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four-year accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience industry experience in a senior management function of an Arena, Convention Center or stadium, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of LEED
  • Familiarity of OSHA requirements
  • Experience in engineering operations (HVAC, electric, plumbing etc.)
  • Experience in budgetary process
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, refrigeration and ice making helpful

Skills and Abilities     

 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational ability
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required
  • Ability to work simultaneously with a broad variety of vested interest groups and to foster a cooperative environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices used in the successful management of entertainment or convention facilities of a similar description
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action
  • Ability to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the entertainment industry
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state or local laws and regulations
  • Effective supervisory skills. Ability to deal effectively with human resources and personnel problems; to deal constructively with conflict; to motivate, provide counsel and execute applicable solutions

 

Computer Skills  

 

To perform this job successfully, the individual should have some computer skills.
