JOB SUMMARY:

The Director, ESG and Sustainability is responsible for helping lead and support the development and successful execution of the company ESG strategy. This individual will work collaboratively with business line leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that ESG goals and objectives are met in accordance with Holland Partner Group’s Core Values.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the organization in the areas of environmental efficiencies, social initiatives, and governance management.
  • Facilitate the Holland ESG Committee and provide support to ESG working groups.
  • Working in conjunction with the ESG Committee to implement a framework for external ESG disclosure, supporting communication of success stories and case studies.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to clearly determine and prioritize the Company’s near-term and long-range ESG vision and goals, corresponding to Sustainability reporting to the Executive Committee, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with Operational leaders on strategy to improve the environmental impact of the portfolio by measuring and reducing energy, water consumption, and carbon emissions.
  • Coordinate a best-in-class multi-family resident engagement program at the asset level, incorporating both environmental and health & wellness initiatives; developing and implementing promotional and educational programs to create awareness.
  • Work across departments to provide input on KPI’s relating to governing policies, diversity and inclusion initiatives, community involvement and charitable sponsorships.
  • Develop and maintain sustainability partnerships with peers and industry leaders, while serving as an ambassador for the Company at leading sustainability conferences and industry events.
  • Monitor, assess, and comply with regional energy performance and carbon-related regulations, and assessing their relative risks to the portfolio with support from operations.   
  • Coordinate any reporting activities (e.g. GRESB)
  • Facilitate consolidation of analysis and data on performance, results and impact and provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Provide support with providing timely feedback to investors including responses to ESG+R sections of RFPs, preparing investor materials and support for due diligence requests.
  • Represent Holland Partner Group in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as directed and assist the overall team effort in any way possible.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, sustainability, environmental science or related field is required

Experience: Eight years relevant experience in sustainable real estate operations, preferably in the multifamily sector required. Experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager, LEED and Fitwel standards and sustainability data management required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Superior data management and analytical skills
  • Collaborate at all levels, working with team members, senior management, and business owners to move projects forward.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a comprehensive strategy to achieve ESG goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to use software programs to process data and interpret the results through critical thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in fast-moving environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively and exercise sound judgement.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Flexible and ability to multitask; can work in a dynamic and complex work environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards and trends is required
  • Advanced skills in writing and report preparation are required
  •  Excellent presentation, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees while inspiring respect and credibility.
  • Ability to support and perpetuate company culture.

Attendance: This full-time position is exempt and requires the ability to be present and available during business hours to meet company and department needs. Additional hours or flexible schedule may be required. 

This position also requires:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel and overnight stays
  • Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
  • Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally.
