Southworth Development is seeking a passionate and process-oriented Corporate Director of Construction with the drive and experience to oversee and elevate our construction globally. The Corporate Director of Construction will possess strategic insight, as well as exceptional leadership skills, creative thinking abilities and a process-driven approach to effecting and implementing initiatives and achieving goals throughout the organization. The Corporate Director of Construction will serve as one of Southworth’s key leaders and will be responsible for the full breadth of our construction activities, requiring an entrepreneurial spirit, innovative approach, and a proven track-record of leadership and results.
The Corporate Director of Construction will have oversight of all construction projects within the company including all residential product types, clubhouses, restaurants, marinas, commercial spaces, and infrastructure. The Corporate Director of Construction is responsible for stewarding the construction managers to the achievement of on time and on budget delivery of construction. They will work with the CDO to establish annual goals and key metrics, measure performance, effectively manage within budget, maximize growth and profitability, find relevant ways to decrease cost without impacting outcomes, and improve the construction process through innovative products and methodology.
This role will lead the regional construction managers and work closely with the property-level construction professionals. This role will collaborate closely with third party construction professionals to ensure the most appropriate methods are being used in construction to the highest level of quality, and at the appropriate level of expense as directed by a collaboration of senior leadership to include the Chief Development Officer, Chief Sales Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and finance and legal teams. You’ll spend your days embedded within our construction professionals, improving, implementing, and executing our processes, sourcing, and managing best-of-breed talent, and analyzing building methodology for the best practices for each unique property and project.

By providing senior-level leadership and direction, the Corporate Director of Construction manages the Construction Managers and coaches them to achieve assigned goals
by holding the leaders accountable for delivering upon the company’s plan. The Corporate Director of Construction is responsible for ensuring standards are met regarding team member selection, development, performance, and retention across all of construction.
To be successful in this role, the Corporate Director of Construction must possess and demonstrate a commitment to excellence, integrity, and strong organizational skills. With experience in multiple constructions segments across multiple geographies, this individual knows how to motivate a team, set up an organization for success, and drive results. The position will be based at Willowbend in Mashpee or in Boston, MA, and requires frequent travel across our locations
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 15+ years of experience
• Proven experience in multiple segments of construction industry in multiple geographies
• Proven experience developing and maintaining exceptional operational and construction standards
• Experience as an accomplished leader, demonstrated by a history of leading effective, successful teams
• Demonstrated success in building, leading, mentoring, and motivating teams; possessing the teamwork, communications, and management process skills needed for success in an evolving organization
• A track record of developing and implementing strategic plans – and implementing processes to deliver outsized results

• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and proactive while working autonomously by effectively prioritizing and planning workload
Experience using technology and digital platforms to achieve goals and work effectively and efficiently
• A hospitality-focused, people-centric approach and attitude is required
• Knowledge and/or experience of golf/private club communities preferred, not required

Physical Requirements:
• Flexible and long hours sometimes required
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Operational/Role-Based:
Strategy and Goal Setting
• Help define and deliver the best management practices for construction of each project, with a clear message and rationale outlining property-level success
• Establish and monitor annual goals for the construction department within Southworth Development; the foundations of which are Operating & Service Excellence (Deliver Extraordinary), Customer Satisfaction (Build Community), Innovation (Dare to Be Different), and Financial Performance (Play to Win).
Execution & Standards
• Develop and enhance the construction process, from engagement in design, planning, preconstruction, budgeting, and building methodology to deliver the best product available in the most efficient manner.
• Focus on creating systemic processes and standards that can scale across properties.
• Build relationships with local and international trades to optimize the construction process.
• Engage with Legal, Operations, Sales, Marketing and Development to develop and engage programs for construction that are applicable to each project and geography.
• Provide continuous feedback and develop action plans with teams if goals are at risk
• Ensure the achievement of operating standards with site inspections and strict enforcement of processes and checklists
• Identify and hire top-tier teams, and support team growth and development both as employees and third-party contractors.
Financial
• Collaborate with CDO & Finance to ensure directives and process have a clear financial goal measurable against other options.
• Participate in monthly financial reviews, identifying key business influencers, explaining variances, and actively managing the business for optimal performance.
• Continually identify ways to deliver exceptional product at an appropriate cost; look for areas to mitigate wastefulness, increase effectiveness, or otherwise improve spend metrics
Personnel Management & Culture
• Serve as coach and mentor to Construction professionals, working directly on the development and upskilling of our people
• Active participation in the recruiting, selection, training, development and retention of property-level construction personnel, and Construction Managers.
• Represent, promote and consistently communicate Southworth Development’s Core Values. “Own” the development and maintenance of a strong culture across the construction team
