Director of Facilities Services

THE DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES SERVICES ENHANCES THE LIVES OF RESIDENTS OF KENDAL AT LEXINGTON by planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the maintenance, support services, grounds, and environmental services departments, including all building systems, equipment, utilities, life safety, security, and oversight of all construction and capital projects according to the Values and Standards of Kendal at Lexington and The Kendal Corporation. Develops and maintains programs within budget of Kendal at Lexington in such a way that reflect our mission, goals, and strategic objectives. Successfully compiles accurate financial reports and data. Using appropriate data, plans, directs and implements effective maintenance policies and processes through collaboration with the CEO and other Department Directors/Managers.

Ensures that department directors/managers understand the facility resources available and the appropriate procedures and processes that will allow them to meet agreed upon objectives. Educates supervisors and others on the Facilities Department’s processes and how the Facilities Departments can meet the needs of the organization. Supports and assists in research on facility and other Kendal at Lexington issues. 

RELATIONSHIPS: Team building, and teamwork are at the heart of Kendal’s management philosophy. The Director of Facilities Services leads the Kendal at Lexington’s Facilities team and is a member of The Kendal at Lexington’s leadership team, which includes the CEO and senior staff. Working with these teams, the Director of Facilities Services assesses the facilities needs and identifies steps to be taken to meet short- and long-term goals and strategic objectives; develops an appropriate operational/capital budget; coaches and develops the staff of the Community; and communicates and participates actively within the larger Kendal system.

The Director of Facilities Services develops and maintains excellent customer service through the establishment of productive, cooperative relationships and communication with the residents of Kendal at Lexington, members of various teams,  and with the larger Lexington/Rockbridge County community. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Thorough knowledge and understanding of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, security, grounds, and systems associated. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in health care facilities, in particular long-term care or LPC, highly preferred, with a knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to the building, the environment and workplace safety. Ability to compile accurate reports and data. Strong knowledge of construction and building maintenance skills and systems.  Ability to supervise staff through motivation, delegation, evaluation, and training. Good skills in individual and group communications, both verbal and written, including the ability to make complex matters clear and easy to understand. Self-motivation and high level of initiative. Ability to understand mathematical concepts and to relate these concepts to numbers and projections that are understandable and accurate. Experience with CAD drawings is a plus.       

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be physically able to walk, climb, drive, bend, stoop, etc. in the daily performance of the job. Occasional travel required. Is expected to participate in weekend/holiday department rotation and Manager on duty assignments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to construction or maintenance environment and the hazards associated with this work environment. Normal hazards associated with maintenance, housekeeping and operation of facilities and systems.
