An international real estate company that has developed over two million square feet of commercial space in Washington DC is looking for a senior level accountant with property management and/or real estate experience. This position will be responsible for the full accounting and reporting functions of real estate portfolios as well as maintaining partnership books for entities.  Solid accounting, communication and organizational skills are required

 

Job Description

 

  • Responsible for full cycle accounting for operating properties and partnership entities as follows:
    • Book day to day entries and monthly recurring entries including depreciation, amortization and pre-paid entries
    • Book inter and intra company transactions
    • Calculate and books interest on inter and intra company loan
    • Prepare and maintains balance sheet reconciliations
    • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
    • Process loan payments and works with lenders to meet reporting requirements
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
    • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and reforecasts
    • Prepare annual operating expense reconciliations
    • Prepare schedules for owners and external auditors
    • Co-ordinate financial audits with clients and third party outside auditors
    • Co-ordinate tax preparation with clients and third party outside tax preparers
    • Prepare lease abstracts and maintains leases in the MRI accounting system
  • Prepare and analyze cash management reports and ensures funding requirements are met
  • Supervise 2 accounts payable accountants
  • Oversee processing of 1099's
  • Provide technical guidance to support staff
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Desired Skills

  • BS in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • 5-10+ years accounting experience - preferably in the real estate industry
  • Understanding of property and partnership accounting including CAM reconciliations as well as corporate financial accounting
  • Strong organization skills

  • Ability to work independently as well with others in a diverse and fast paced environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure while maintaining a positive can-do attitude

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel
  • Prior experience with real estate property management accounting software.  MRI and Sage 300 Real Estate Accounting software (formerly Timberline Office) is a plus.
