Overall Responsibility The Director, MEP Projects will serve as Tishman’s Corporate MEP Subject Matter Expert, providing advice and guidance with respect to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection aspects of projects for the entire Tishman Portfolio, including new developments, acquisitions, capital updates, renovations, and equipment replacements, with heavy emphasis on the mechanical systems.


In addition, this position will provide direct project management of MEP and all other types of capital projects, updates and renovation related work at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort, and other Tishman properties in the Orlando area.  This position is based in Orlando, Florida.

Key Areas of Responsibility

MEP Subject Matter Expert
  • Serve as Tishman’s Corporate MEP Subject Matter Expert as a technical/consultive resource on all MEP system and equipment issues for major renovations, infrastructure replacement, retro commissioning, and energy performance projects and new developments and acquisitions.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to our consulting Engineers and Architects with systems and equipment studies.
  • Review of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, structural, environmental, and architectural design documents (drawings, specifications, etc.) prepared by design consultants for accuracy, code compliance, constructability, and functionality; Provide feedback, and insure appropriate documentation is implemented.
  • Monitor the progress of MEP design projects, liaison with Hotel Engineering and operations staff, and supervise on-site activities, including General Contractor and subcontractor management, ensure compliance with design, specifications, building codes, and contractual agreements.
Project Management
  • Day to day management of all phases of hotel capital projects, renovations, additions and enhancements, as assigned, including:
    • Planning: project scope development, RFP process, contract preparation, engineer, architect, and contractor recommendations;
    • Budgeting: project budget tracking, change order management and invoice approval;
    • Scheduling; Develop an overall schedule for the project for approval by senior management and ownership; Review and evaluate proposed schedules of construction from contractors, with particular attention to the coordination of work. Make recommendations concerning coordination and workflow.
    • Coordination with operating team, purchasing team, contractors, design team, consultants on shop drawings and sample review process
    • Work with hotel operations to identify and control any revenue or occupancy displacement or direct guest impacts.
    • Quality control and compliance of work in progress including oversight of design consultant’s field reporting; and
    • Closeout: guiding punch list, commissioning of equipment activities, coordinating all close out and turnover action items.
  • Work with contractors to address issues and potential change-orders to minimize cost over-runs and budget creep. Provide a thorough review and upward dissemination of information regarding change orders as needed.
  • Drive communication between all internal and external project stakeholders throughout design and construction to ensure all needs and expectations of project are met. Communicate decisions to consultants and contractors.  Provide regular status updates to Senior Management and Executives.

 Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or comparable work experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing building mechanical systems for new construction and renovation projects as a consultant to architects, developers and property owners
  • 7-10 years’ overall work experience, with progression from MEP field practice, to Project Management, to Owner's Rep/Developer representation.
  • Experience in Hospitality (preferable), Timeshares, Hospital or other related high rise Commercial projects

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of technical drawings, plans, prints, specifications and schematics
  • Understanding of Building Codes, Mechanical Codes, Electrical Codes and Plumbing Codes
  • Understanding of design principles and construction industry practice for the solution of mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing engineering problems.
  • Ability to analyze mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing engineering problems and formulate solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and liaise with internal and external project team members
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with superior attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task, and meet established deadlines; Excellent follow-up, negotiation and resolution skills
  • Superior computer skills; expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel and Project) required
  • Ability to travel within the U.S.
