JOB SUMMARY
  

Conducts on-site Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and/or Phase II subsurface investigations to identify recognized environmental conditions and other conditions of environmental concern for the project and related off-site properties in accordance with ASTM and client specific standards as an Environmental Professional or Complete NEPA & Section 106 related research, submissions and outreach related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  

Completes standard Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and/or Phase II subsurface investigations to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and other conditions of environmental concerns as outlined in the scope of work or Complete standard NEPA & Section 106 related research, submissions and outreach related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc.

Reviews previous assessment reports, historical and regulatory records for the property and for the surrounding area and reports data in accordance with ASTM criteria and client's scope of work.

Conducts interviews with property owners, occupants, key site personnel and local government officials to obtain information concerning the environmental conditions related to the property and adjacent properties.

Performs screenings for the presence of asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, lead in drinking water and subsurface contamination. Screenings may include collection of samples.

Writes reports which convey the environmental assessment and provide exhibits and photos which illustrate or clarify information presented in the body of the report.

Coordinates municipal and private utility clearance, prior to Phase II activities, obtains site access and coordinates with drillers and laboratories.

Completes online and field research related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  

Bachelor's of Science degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field and 5 years of environmental related experience or Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist with 3 years relevant experience or 10 years of environmental related experienced.

For NEPA, Bachelors degree (BA/BS) or above in archeology, historic architecture, architecture history, biology, wetlands science, GIS or related degree.

Knowledgeable of federal, state and local environmental requirements.


CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
  

Meeting the Secretary of Interior Standards for historic Preservation preferred if applying for historic preservation related job.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.


FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
  

Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.


REASONING ABILITY
  

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
  

Advanced knowledge of computer software and hardware (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite Products).

Excellent time management and organizational skills. The position requires simultaneously managing electronic deliverables for several ongoing assignments.

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
  

Decisions made with understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Responsible for setting own project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
