Position Summary:

RFA seeks a qualified Real Estate Investments Associate for our Investments & Portfolio Management team. The position will be located in our Los Angeles, Bethesda (MD), New York, or Denver offices. The Real Estate Investments Associate will perform market research, financial analysis, underwriting, due diligence, and portfolio management for potential and existing real estate investments.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Underwriting new investments through financial modeling and market research, including evaluating submarket fundamentals, property operations, cash flow assumptions, and modeling waterfall and other financing structures;
• Analyzing investment opportunities in operating companies, funds, co-investment vehicles, separate accounts, and programmatic joint ventures;
• Evaluating potential investment partners based on track records, strategies, pipelines, financial and operating structures, and management interviews;
• Researching and developing knowledge of industry trends and participants;
• Performing various asset management responsibilities, including: monitoring existing assets, analyzing investment performance, performing hold/sell analyses, reviewing budgets and capital plans, reviewing financial statements, and ensuring manager compliance with operating agreements; and
• Preparing reports and presentations to communicate key findings and recommendations to Investment Committee and clients.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier school with a degree in real estate, finance, economics, or with a demonstrated focus in quantitative analysis;
• 2-4 years of work experience requiring quantitative analysis, either through multiple internships or working in the private/public sector;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and particularly Excel for financial modeling and analysis;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting and valuation, and
• A passion for financial and economic analysis, ability to structure quantitative and qualitative problem-solving approaches, and attention to detail and accuracy
