Description/Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Head of Loan Origination who is interested in joining a dynamic and successful real estate investment, lending and development company. This opportunity carries significant growth opportunity. The Head of Originations manages the internal infrastructure to originate, underwrite and execute all new loan opportunities within a high-volume environment. This individual will also originate a substantial book of business acting as a “player coach” to a team of direct reports.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Ensure all direct reports receive guidance and training consistent with Company and department objectives.
- Increase lending activity and originate a substantial book of business through professional industry relationships.
- Manage the evaluation of loan requests to determine credit quality of opportunities.
- Participate in the executive credit committee loan approval process.
- Create and maintain continuing dialogue with Borrowers and Brokers to promote long-term working relationships.
- Monitor originations operations to ensure all policies and procedures are being adhered to allow efficient workflow without steps being missed that could cause negative financial trends.
- Conduct preliminary diligence and underwriting on new loan opportunities prior to sign-up, ensuring the loan meets the Company’s credit policy/guideline.
- Identify preliminary merits, risks and mitigants for transactions.
- Work with the CEO, Head of Credit or Risk Manager, to ensure the collateral has been visually inspected prior to loan close.
- Create improvements to operational efficiencies across the department.
- Establish performance requirements and origination targets for Junior Originators; monitor performance regularly and provide coaching and development support.
- Participate in the commercial real estate community, as an industry leader, including conference panel participation and trade events.
- Manage and mentor Analyst and Associate level personnel.
- Drive technology and digital strategic planning and implementation.

- Skills
- Experienced manager of people and a team of private lending professionals.
- Extensive knowledge of cashflow and valuation analysis for all commercial property types.
- Ability to analyze real estate markets and submarkets and the positioning of the potential collateral within.
- Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to evaluate personal financial statements and provide clear and concise, data driven conclusions.
- Familiar with key legal documents used in commercial real estate transactions, including mortgage, loan agreement, promissory notes, guarantees and inter-creditor agreements.
- Familiar with entity legal structures and formation documents, such as LLC’s, Trusts, Partnerships and Corporations.
- Highly proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), as well as other valuation tools such as Argus.

- Bachelor or Masters degree with focus in finance, business, real estate, or related field of study.
- 15+ years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
- Thorough knowledge of loan underwriting and closing processes.
- Competency in CRM Databases (Salesforce).
- Significant track record of proactively reaching out to potential investment targets
Salary
Commensurate with education and work experience. Range of $175,000 - $250,000. Plus discretionary bonus.
